Tarot Interview: Day Dream Tarot

I’m continuing my Tarot interview series today. I thought I may proceed alphabetically, but I decided to go intuitively instead.

The deck I chose today is the Day Dream Tarot (by Lua). I bought this at the Shosen Book Tower in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan last year. It is almost entirely in Japanese, but I have Google Translate and it mostly follows the RWS system. Let’s go!

Day Dream Tarot has some of the sweetest art I have ever seen. This deck is so adorable. But it does retain the layers of visual meaning that make it fairly easy to read.

Question 1: How would you describe yourself as a deck? I drew The Fool, which seemed to make so much sense given the whimsical first impression of the art. It is depicted as a bunny jumping off a cliff into the water below. The Fool is the very beginning, it is total freedom, it is embracing the unknown (for better or worse). I interpret this to mean it is ready to jump right in and guide you.

Question 2: What is your favorite subject? I drew the four of pentacles, which is depicted as a squirrel with four macrons all to itself. Typically this would mean selfishness, or obsession with material things. In this position I think this deck is ready to give you some hard truths about yourself, and something to reflect on.

Question 3: What subject do you not like? I drew The Lovers. The art on this is pretty interesting as it is two bunnies, under a tree with an apparently divine bunny, but there is a snake wrapped around the apple tree. As a side note, I’m going to mention that the tree is between the bunnies, not on “Eve’s” side, as depicted in the RWS. I think this means Day Dream Tarot is not really interested in relationship advice.

It will be interesting getting some hard truths from a deck with such gentle art, but I’m looking forward to getting to know Day Dream Tarot more in the future.
