It’s time to interview another deck. How many do we have? 257 as of the time of publication. Have I ever turned down a deck? Yes, many. I love examining the different artistic interpretations on the same themes. But some just don’t click. Or some seem like shameless money grabs. In spite of our large collection, we are picky.
Today I am looking at the Harmonious Tarot (Los Scarabeo, 2005, based on artwork by Walter Crane and Ernest Fitzpatrick). This deck is a little different. It was gifted to me by a friend who was having difficulty reading with it. After working with it for a little while I have to agree. This deck is so harmonious! The colors are calming, the scenes are pretty – even if the message is difficult. What possible use could there be for a deck that seems to outright refuse to acknowledge conflict? Well, why not ask the deck itself?
The LWB has pretty standard and spare interpretations. However, it starts with a two page introduction to a fictional character, Lady Victoria Westwood, who give us a brief description of the deck. It’s surprising that the author would go to the trouble of setting a scene without fleshing out the card interpretations as well. I have not been able to find a proper companion book online so if you know of one, please comment.

Question 1: What is your purpose? Queen of Cups. Emotional stability. This says to me the deck is meant to keep you calm when you have a problem.
Question 2: What can I learn from you? 8 of Swords. How to get out of a difficult situation. The card depicts not just someone feeling trapped, but also a friend trying to help. I have seen this interpretation in other decks. I take it to mean this deck will help guide you through difficulties when you feel stuck or lost.
Question 3: What can you NOT help answer? The Stars. Keeping the faith, being optimistic. This deck is practical. It will help you with practical solutions. It will not tell you to just not worry and everything will be OK.
In conclusion, the Harmonious Tarot is a calm, steady guide who will help you figure out how to get through a difficult time. I can hear it saying “don’t panic, here’s what we’re going to do…”
Now that I’ve had a chance to hear what the deck has to say, I really do appreciate it, and I get a sense of how it can be useful when you are really stressed out and don’t know what to do. The Harmonious Tarot is here to keep you on an even keel, focused, and calm.
Do you read with the Harmonious Tarot? What has your experience been?
